What is Google Analytics?

Google Analytics is a free web analytics tool provided by Google. It enables website owners and marketers to collect detailed statistics about the traffic to their website, the origin of that traffic, the behavior of users on the site and much more. By implementing a piece of tracking code on every page of the website, Google Analytics can collect data and generate reports that provide valuable insights into the website's performance.

How does Google Analytics work?

When a user visits a website linked to Google Analytics, a cookie is automatically placed in that user's browser. This cookie uniquely identifies the user and tracks his or her interactions on the website. Whenever the user visits a page, fills out a form, makes a purchase, or takes any other action, this information is captured and sent to Google Analytics for processing.

Google Analytics offers a comprehensive dashboard and range of reports that help users understand various aspects of their website performance. Some key measurements that can be analyzed include:

  1. Traffic Sources: Allows users to see where the traffic is coming from, such as organic search, referring websites, social media, or paid ads.

  2. User Behavior: This includes information such as page views, average time on site, bounce rate, and website user flow tracking.

  3. Goals and conversions: Google Analytics makes it possible to set specific goals, such as filling out a form, signing up for a newsletter or making a purchase. Users can measure the conversion rate and value of each conversion.
